YEAR OF THE WORD: THE GOD WHO SPEAKS

fb-logo SCRIPTURE is at the centre of everything the Church does. The Word of God shapes our prayer and worship. The Bible shows us how to understand the world, how we are called to live and relate to each other. 2020 is the 10th anniversary of Verbum Domini – Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Exhortation on ‘The Word of the Lord’ and the 1,600th anniversary of St Jerome’s death. These dates have inspired the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales to dedicate 2020 as a year of focus on the Bible and ‘The God Who Speaks’. The Launch date for this celebration was 30 September 2019 - Feast of St Jerome. We will be celebrating, living and sharing God‘s Word with an exciting new Scripture initiative. It’s an opportunity to enrich current practice and to develop and explore new ways of responding to ‘The God who Speaks’. Throughout the year 2020 there will be a different monthly focus to help explore our three themes of celebrating, living and sharing God’s Word. THE GIVING MACHINE

The Giving Machine

WE HAVE JOINED THE GIVING MACHINE

PLEASE CONSIDER making your ONLINE PURCHASES via The Giving Machine. By doing this you can generate a donation to the parish at no extra cost to you.

You will need to register with them, naming Scarborough Catholic Parishes as your chosen ‘cause’. To shop, you will need to logon to the Giving Machine website first – then go to their ‘shops’ page and select a store. You will be taken to the store’s website where you make your purchase. The donation is generated at the point of sale. There couldn’t be an easier way to give.

HOW DOES THIS WORK? Online stores pay COMMISSION to agents who direct potential customers to their site. The Giving Machine acts as such an agent, but instead of claiming the full commission for themselves they turn most of it into a donation for the customer's chosen cause. If you (the customer) pay tax, you can also opt to Gift Aid this.

Note - this commission will be paid to an agent anyway - why not opt to put it to good use!
