Sacrament of Baptism

BAPTISM

If you would like to have your child or yourself baptised, please contact the Parish Priest on 01723 360358. Parents wishing to have their child baptised are normally required to attend a Baptism Preparation Programme which is held 3 times yearly, comprising of four sessions of one hour each (during Coronavirus lockdown this may vary).

If you are not a Catholic but wish to be received into the Church, or if you are an adult who has been away from the Church for a long period of time and wishes to return, please speak to the Parish Priest. Further information can also be found on the RCIA page of this website – click HERE.

“Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua),4 and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: ‘Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word’.”

Sacrament of Holy Matrimony

SACRAMENT OF HOLY MATRIMONY (MARRIAGE)

Please contact the Parish Priest to arrange an appointment to discuss your proposed wedding (please give us at least 6 months notice). Couples will normally be required to complete a programme of Marriage Preparation.

“The matrimonial covenant, by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of the whole of life, is by its nature ordered toward the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of offspring; this covenant between baptised persons has been raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament.”

Anointing of the Sick

ANOINTING OF THE SICK

From time to time our Churches offer Masses which include Anointing of the Sick.

If you would like a visit from a priest with Anointing for yourself or another, please phone the parish priest on 01723 360358. Please state if it is urgent end of life.

“The Church believes and confesses that among the seven sacraments there is one especially intended to strengthen those who are being tried by illness, the Anointing of the Sick:

This sacred anointing of the sick was instituted by Christ our Lord as a true and proper sacrament of the New Testament. It is alluded to indeed by Mark, but is recommended to the faithful and promulgated by James the apostle and brother of the Lord.

From ancient times in the liturgical traditions of both East and West, we have testimonies to the practice of anointings of the sick with blessed oil. Over the centuries the Anointing of the Sick was conferred more and more exclusively on those at the point of death. Because of this it received the name “Extreme Unction.” Notwithstanding this evolution the liturgy has never failed to beg the Lord that the sick person may recover his health if it would be conducive to his salvation.

The Apostolic Constitution Sacram unctionem infirmorum, following upon the Second Vatican Council, established that henceforth, in the Roman Rite, the following be observed:

The sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is given to those who are seriously ill by anointing them on the forehead and hands with duly blessed oil – pressed from olives or from other plants – saying, only once: “Through this holy anointing may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit. May the Lord who frees you from sin save you and raise you up.”

Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)

The Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) is offered at all three of our churches at the times given on the home page (scroll down to to the bottom of the Mass Times), and also by request to one of our priests.

Children will make their First Confession during their course of preparation for First Holy Communion. Please click HERE for more information.

Confessions can be arranged for the Sick and Housebound. Please phone the Parish Priest on 01723 360358, or speak to your Parish Visitor.

“Those who approach the sacrament of Penance obtain pardon from God’s mercy for the offence committed against him, and are, at the same time, reconciled with the Church which they have wounded by their sins and which by charity, by example, and by prayer labours for their conversion”

It is called the Sacrament of Conversion because it makes sacramentally present Jesus’ call to conversion, the first step in returning to the Father from whom one has strayed by sin.

It is called the Sacrament of Penance, since it consecrates the Christian sinner’s personal and ecclesial steps of conversion, penance, and satisfaction.

It is called the Sacrament of Confession, since the disclosure or confession of sins to a priest is an essential element of this sacrament. In a profound sense it is also a “confession” – acknowledgement and praise – of the holiness of God and of his mercy toward sinful man.

It is called the Sacrament of Forgiveness, since by the priest’s sacramental absolution God grants the penitent “pardon and peace.”

It is called the Sacrament of Reconciliation, because it imparts to the sinner the live of God who reconciles: “Be reconciled to God.”7 He who lives by God’s merciful love is ready to respond to the Lord’s call: “Go; first be reconciled to your brother.”

LOURDES DIOCESAN YOUTH PILGRIMAGE 2018

Comments from our pupils about their experience in Lourdes:

The best thing about this pilgrimage was that it brought everyone together, no matter what age or race. Everyone was able to bond through their faith.

I really liked the torchlight procession because the lights were so beautiful and being part of it was a unique experience.

The most impressive part of the pilgrimage for me was when we were with the Supported Pilgrims. We got to learn the story of their lives and we formed a special bond with one lady. She taught me a lot.

Even although we were all different nationalities in Lourdes, we all came together in prayer. I loved that.

My favourite part of Lourdes was just talking to the Supported Pilgrims. They were so friendly and weren’t bothered what they had been through as much as the opportunity to go to Lourdes.

I loved how close we all were and how we all supported each other. We were a little family and I will be forever grateful for having this opportunity to go to France.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our group to make this year’s pilgrimage.

A candle was lit at the Grotto for all of our parish and school communities, families and friends.

Rosary for the Unborn & for World Peace

Rosary of the Unborn and for World Peace – Monthly meetings – Sunday’s from April to August at 7pm and from September to March 2.45pm (Please check weekly newsletter for the date each month).

From 1967-2018, in Britain alone, 8.7 million unborn babies have tragically died through abortion, and today nearly 4.000 babies die every week, the equivalent of 20 passenger jets crashing. We pray the Rosary – Heavens weapon to end abortion –  and the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for God’s Mercy on our Nation – The Dowry of Mary – We pray for the  protection of the unborn babies, for the healing of all parents suffering the trauma of abortion –‘ so many suffer in silence because others tell them it’s  no big deal!’   Afterwards we have a cuppa and homemade cakes. Please do come and join us.

HOW DID THIS UNIQUE ROSARY COME ABOUT AND THE PROMISES ATTENDANT TO IT?  On October 7, 1997– the Feast of the Holy Rosary – Our Lady comes in white and appears to visionary Maureen Sweeney-Kyle with this rosary and states: …“Propagate the image I have shown you today.”  In front of her, and suspended in the air is an unusual rosary. The Our Father beads are droplets of blood in the shape of a cross. The Hail Mary beads are light blue tear drops with unborn babies inside of them. The cross is gleaming gold. Our Lady says: “I come in praise of Jesus, My Son. I come as Prophetess of these times.” “The rosary you see is Heaven’s way of describing to you the weapon that will overcome this evil of abortion. Heaven weeps for the cost of this great sin. The history and the future of all nations has been changed because of this atrocity against God’s gift of life.” On July 2nd 2001, Our lady appears again as the Sorrowful Mother and  promises of The Rosary of the Unborn  –An UNBORN CHILD WILL BE SAVED with each loving “Hail Mary” recited with this Rosary: “I affirm to you…that each ‘Hail Mary’ prayed from a loving heart will rescue one of these innocent lives from death by abortion.” “This is a special grace attached to this particular rosary.” (Blessed Mother, 7/2/2001)

Divine Mercy Devotions

Divine Mercy and Rosary devotions with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament: Friday’s 2.45pm in St Peter’s Sacristy from October to Easter and in St Peter’s church from Easter to September. Please check weekly newsletter in case of change.   Please see leaflets in the church porch for details, including the Prayers, the chaplet and Novena in preparation for the Feast day of Divine Mercy, which is the first Sunday after Easter

The Hour of Great Mercy

In His revelations to St Faustina, Our Lord asked for a special prayer and meditation on His Passion each afternoon at the three o’clock hour, the hour that recalls His death on the cross. I remind you my daughter, that as often as you hear the clock strike the third hour, immerse yourself completely in my Mercy, adoring and glorifying it; invoke its omnipotence for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners, for at that moment Mercy was opened wide for every soul. At this hour you can obtain everything for yourself and others for the asking; it was the time of Grace for the whole world – the moment that Mercy triumphed over Justice.

In response to Our Lord’s request, we pray for God’s Mercy for our sins and the sins of the whole world, and for the Grace to be merciful to others. We pray for the powerful  intercession of Our Lady of all nations  for World Peace Please join us.
