NATIONAL TURIN SHROUD REPLICA EXHIBITION

NATIONAL SHROUD OF TURIN EXHIBITION
(SCROLL DOWN FOR PROGRAMME)
Featuring full-sized replica of actual Shroud which is held in Turin, Italy
Saturday 8 to Sunday 16 October 2022 at St Peter’s Church, Scarborough – Open 11am to 3pm daily

The exhibition features a full-sized replica of the Shroud of Turin (the actual Shroud is housed in the Cathedral of the Italian city of Turin), and includes detailed information boards about aspects of the shroud, together with other exhibits, including a life-sized statue of the Roman centurion who pierced the side of Christ, and replicas of instruments used in His crucifixion. The exhibition aims to use the replica of the Shroud as a visual aid to tell the story of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and to examine the mystery of the cloth. It takes the journey of Jesus from his trial through the events of Good Friday to the empty tomb, using passages from the four gospels. It tries to demonstrate what the flogging, the whip, the piercings, the nails and spear were really like, using the Shroud as a teaching aid.  It has both a historical and a spiritual dimension. Visitors are given a chance to gain a deeper understanding of the great sacrifice Christ made for us for our own redemption.

The following is a draft programme of events at St Peter’s Church.  We are awaiting information on school visits, but the exhibition will remain open during those times. Also to be confirmed are peripheral events of Lectio Divina and Video Presentations – the times are as shown but specifics of the events are to be confirmed. Please revisit this page before attending.

Exhibition and talks will be held inside the Church. Peripheral events will be in the Parish Centre at the opposite side of the car park.

Masses at St Peter’s on Sundays are at 9.30am (Polish) and 11.30am (English). Weekday Masses at St Peter’s are at 10am on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. For a full listing of the Mass times at all our Scarborough churches, click HERE.
